Phil Musson has achieved a substantive career in social work, developed through working as a training officer in social services and then in higher education as a lecturer and senior lecturer. He has held posts at Nottingham Trent University and the University of Lincoln, teaching on social work and health and social care programmes before retiring in 2021.
