Creative, Connected
and Current

Hello, we’re Critical Publishing
....and we're here to help people in education, health and social work become the best students and professionals they can be.

Having both worked in publishing for many years, we (Di and Julia) founded Critical Publishing in 2012. We met up in the cafe of the British Library, ordered coffee and cake, and hatched a plan. We felt we could produce learning resources for education and social work students and professionals that were fresher and better than what was already around.

We believe we do this by offering a more critical approach (in all the best senses) that helps our readers think and encourages them to analyse, evaluate, question and challenge. But without making it too difficult or daunting.

So our readers achieve better skills, increased awareness and greater success in their chosen professional paths.

We’ve now published over 100 titles in print and digital format, and readers love them. We also have exciting plans for our future offerings ...

Julia Morris  |  julia@criticalpublishing.com

I am an experienced publisher who has been involved in educational publishing at a range of levels for 28 years. I have worked for Hobsons, Ward Lock and Hodder, and most recently for Learning Matters, building up their best-selling HE Education list (ITT, Early Years, Education Studies,) as well as undertaking HE publishing in Sport, Psychology, Policing and Admissions Tests.

"Julia is a great publisher to have. Always supportive and helpful to her authors and ready to share her considerable experience and creative input when required. I have always found her to be highly professional, and fun to work with, with a good instinct for what the market needs."Jonathan Gravells - Author and Director, Fargo Associates Ltd

Di Page  |  di@criticalpublishing.com

I have worked in professional and higher education publishing for the last 30 years including a range of roles at Pearson, Thomson Reuters and the ICAEW, during which time I have created many successful products, both hard copy and electronic. Prior to setting up Critical Publishing, I worked for Learning Matters where I launched and built a market-leading social work list and developed other series within the health & social care HE market

"Di is a pleasure to work with and for. As an author and editor I have found her to be consistently supportive and quick to respond to queries. Her significant experience within the publishing world means that she is able to offer constructive guidance that is effective and helpful. Di is the ideal publisher: professional and with a sense of humour. It has been a pleasure to work with her." Angie Bartoli - Senior Lecturer and Author, University of Northampton
